South America

South America quickly became one of our favorite regions — not because any single country stole the show, but because the whole continent feels like a sequence of impossible landscapes stitched together.

A trip around South America covers every possible type of landscape. From the high Andes of Peru to the majestic glaciers of Patagonia and from the lush green forests and sunny Atlantic to the rocky and rough Pacific coast, the geography alone would be enough. Add on top of that the people and their Latin warmth, and it feels like home every time we visit.

But the cultural side can also be a big part of the experience. Colorful colonial towns, vibrant capital cities and ancient sights can all be sampled in a single trip.

There are many stereotypes and misconceptions about South America, especially around safety and crime. But as always with these things, practicing common sense will take you a long way. We never felt unsafe in any of the countries we visited and while there are sketchy areas and placed to avoid, there are tons of perfectly safe places to explore and enjoy.
