Middle East

The Middle East is a complicated region where ancient history and modern architecture sit side by side — sometimes in the same skyline. We have only visited twice, but both trips left a lasting impression, and we would return in a heartbeat.

The history buffs will absolutely love every part of this region. Jerusalem alone could fill up a week of travel, with its old churches, sinagogs and mosques, being at the crossroads of civilizations for thousands of years. On top of that, the contrast between the ancient temples of Petra and the modern architecture of Dubai is a sight to behold.

The food alone would justify a return trip: hummus and falafel on flatbread straight from the oven, spices that taste like they have been refined over centuries. It is a region that asks for curiosity and rewards it generously.
